It is a condition of registration and membership of The Berkshire School of English (our school) and to enroll on our courses or in our Clubs that you accept and agree these Terms and Conditions.

If you do not understand, accept or agree to any part of these Terms and Conditions, you should not purchase any items or register with our school.


Online Shop

Purchasing Courses, Gift Vouchers, Membership or Merchandise from our online shop will deem to be acceptance of our Terms and conditions.

Membership - To register and become a member of our school you must normally be aged 18 or over at the start date. If you are under 18 your parent or guardian must sign a “Parental Consent Form”


Right to cancel

 All customers have the right to cancel their orders under the The Distance Selling Regulations which gives consumers extra protection when buying online. Specific legislation here that applies is regulation of The Distance Selling Regulations.

You have the right to cancel the purchase of a good without having to give a reason at any time within the "cooling off period" of seven working days, beginning on the day after you receive the goods.

If you are in possession of the goods you are under the duty to retain them and take reasonable care of them. You must send the goods back to us to our contact address at your own cost (unles we delivered the item to you in error or the item is damaged or defective) as soon as possible once you have canceled the contract.

We reserve the right to make a charge not exceeding our direct costs of recovering the goods if you do not return the goods or return them at our expense.

Once you have notified us that you wish to cancel the contract, any sum debited to us will be refunded to you as soon as possible and in any event within 30 days of your cancellation.

You will not have any right to cancel a purchase for the supply of any of the following goods:

  • for the supply of goods the price of which is dependent on fluctuations in the financial market which cannot be controlled by the retailer.



All notices you send us must be sent to the contact details on this site (info@berkshireschoolofenglish.co.uk). We may give notice to you at either the email or postal address you provide to us when making a purchase. (Notice will be deemed received and properly served 24 hours after an email is sent or three days after the date of posting of any letter.) In providing the service of any notice, it will be sufficient to prove, in the case of a letter, that the letter was properly addressed, stamped and placed in the post and, in the case of an email that the email was sent to the specified email address of the addressees.



These terms are governed by English law. Any contract for the purchase of goods from this site and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with any such contract will be governed by English law. You and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction. However, if you are a resident in Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in Northern Ireland, and if you are a resident in Scotland you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.


Gift Vouchers Terms

Berkshire School of English,  (“BSE”, “Our”, “We” or “Us”)

All our usual terms and conditions and policies apply to Gift Vouchers. These terms and conditions will also apply to the purchase and redemption of our Gift Certificates available at www.berskshireschoolofenglish-shop.co.uk (‘Website’)


The use of gift vouchers fall under the following terms and conditions:

In order to purchase a Gift Certificate, you will need to register an account with us through our Website.

Gift Certificates ordered through our Website will be delivered automatically by electronic means to the email address you specify at the time of order.  Our Gift Certificates include unique numbers and configurable patterns.

Our Gift Certificates must be redeemed on our Website, as full or part payment of courses from our Website.  A Gift Certificate cannot be used to purchase a further Gift Certificate.

When ordering a Gift Certificate, you should ensure to enter the recipient’s email address correctly.  We cannot be held responsible if the address is entered incorrectly and someone other than the intended recipient uses the Gift Certificate.

Site offers and promotions (including gifts with purchase and discounts) do not apply when purchasing gift vouchers.

You can check the balance of the Gift Certificate by logging into your account (please note, this only applies if you register for an account).

  • All Gift Certificates are dated and expire 12 months from the date of issue.
  • Gift Certificates cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Gift Certificates may only be redeemed against courses purchased in the same currency as the Gift Certificate.
  • Where online courses are purchased online with a Gift Certificate our ‘Online Courses Terms and Conditions’ Apply
  • Where face-to-face/classroom courses are purchased online with a Gift Certificate our ‘General Terms and Conditions’ Apply

We are not responsible if a Gift Certificate is lost, stolen, destroyed or used without permission and no replacement will be provided in these circumstances.

School Membership & Courses

The conditions below set out the Terms and Conditions of the relationship between you, the student, and us, The Berkshire School of English Ltd.


The Terms and Conditions below apply to our campus at The Berkshire School of English, Upper Floor, 57 Cheap Street, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 5DH and any venue where our courses take place.

To register and become a member of our school you must normally be aged 18 or over at the start date.

If you are under 18 your parent or guardian must sign a “Parental Consent Form”

A registration and membership fee of £30 is payable immediately upon application, you will receive an invoice and a receipt of payment. Membership is payable annually.  Registration and membership is non-refundable.

Learning programmes and courses will be invoiced by our school and must be paid for in full prior to the start of the programme or course or by way of an easy monthly repayment programme agreed in advance with Clare Middleton.

Payments must be made by Bank Transfer, or cash. Our Bank Details are as follows:

If, due to unforeseen circumstances, a course is cancelled you will receive a full refund of course fees.

We reserve the right to cancel courses that fail to meet the minimum recruitment level before commencement. A full refund will be made in such circumstances.

Upon a valid receipt refunds will be made using the method used for the initial payment or by cheque.

If you wish to withdraw from a programme or course you must do so in writing or by email immediately.

Any student who withdraws from a programme of study after its start date will not normally qualify for any refund.   Students on a monthly repayment scheme who withdraw from the school before the end of their programme must give four weeks notice in writing, which must be paid for in full even if they are unable to attend the course or programme.


Repayment programme: 4 weeks payment in advance, plus 4 weeks notice. Missed lessons are not refundable.

We reserve the right to change any times/dates/content listed.

These Terms and Conditions are not exhaustive, specific conditions not mentioned here may be applicable to a specific programme, course or service but these will be clear on any web information, receipt, information booklet or application form.
